What is a cookie?

A “cookie” is a small text file containing data, such as the name of a server or a unique ID, generated by a website and saved by the web browser that you use. Its purpose is to log the users’ access to the website as well as other information about the navigation activities.

Cookies can be stored permanently and have a variable duration (so-called persistent cookies), but they can also disappear when the browser is closed or have a limited duration (so-called session cookies). Similarly, cookies can be installed by the site you are visiting (so-called first-party cookies), but also by other websites (so-called third-party cookies) and can be used for various purposes, such as performing computer authentication, monitoring sessions and storing information regarding the activities of users who access a particular site. Depending on the purpose of use, cookies can be divided into the following categories: technical, analytical and marketing/profiling cookies.

This site uses technical cookies (including preference cookies) and analytical/statistical cookies, both first-party and third-party.

For each category of cookies, a description of the purposes pursued with their installation and an analytical list of them are provided below.

Categories of cookies installed on the Website

Technical cookies

Technical cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the Site, to offer the user a smooth navigation without slowdowns (e.g. to allow access to restricted areas to be maintained for the entire time of the user's stay on the Site), as well as to correctly provide the services that the user requests during their browsing.

Thus, they are means used to guarantee, for instance, an efficient browsing, stability of the session, login’s consistency and preselection of the selected browsing country. Moreover, they are needed to remember the user’s choices related to the visualization of some of the elements of the page, like informative banners or the language (also called “elements of preference”).

The use of technical cookies and the performance of the processing related to them does not require the user's consent. The legal basis that allows the processing of the relevant data is the performance of services requested directly by the data subject (Art. 6.1, b) of the GDPR

Analytics/statistical cookies

The Site uses analytics. In particular, through analytical cookies – including third-party cookies – information is collected on how users use the Site (number of visitors, pages visited, time spent, etc.). This information is used, in particular, to improve the functionality of the Site, allowing, for example, to record any errors detected by users and thus ensure them a smoother and more immediate navigation. By collecting data only in aggregate form, so as not to make users identifiable in any way, these cookies are equivalent to technical cookies.
